The Laboratory Astrophysics Prize is presented, normally on an annual basis, to an individual who has made sustained and impactful theoretical or experimental contributions to laboratory astrophysics throughout their career. The candidate should demonstrate engagement and collaboration in the broader research community and is committed to professional development at a broad level, including holding leadership positions, being active members of professional societies, advisory or service committees, and engaging in public outreach and service, mentoring or teaching, etc. The prize includes a cash award, a framed certificate, and an invited lecture by the recipient at the annual meeting of the Laboratory Astrophysics Division.

Criteria for consideration and selection include but are not limited to:

  1. Significance of sustained and impactful theoretical or experimental contributions to laboratory astrophysics throughout their career: Research activities by candidates for the LAD Career Prize provide insights or professional applications that influenced the state of the art of their area of expertise, and influenced how other scientists approach this topic as evidenced by publications that are widely recognized as being influential (e.g., citations, acceptance at conferences and by the science community, long lasting impact on the field).
  2. Significance of demonstrated engagement and collaboration in the broader research community: The candidate is engaged and is committed to professional development and scientific collaboration across the field, including holding leadership positions, being active members of professional societies, advisory or service committees, and engaging in public outreach and service, mentoring or teaching, participation in larger research studies or consortia, demonstrated benefit to the community, etc.
